Why do teeth change color?
Teeth will become darker or stained over time for many reasons.
- Smoking
- Drinking tea, coffee, and red wine
- A side-effect of certain medications, such as tetracycline
- Excess fluoride in early childhood
- Infection and decay of a tooth
- A natural result of ageing. As we get older, tooth enamel becomes thinner, both exposing the off-white material beneath, as well as making the teeth more susceptible to staining
What’s the difference between professional and over-the-counter whitening?
Professional teeth whitening in a dental office uses professional grade products that are only allowed to be administered by qualified dental care experts. This allows the team at Universal Dental Care to whiten your teeth by 4-8 shades in just 30-45 minutes, rather than the several weeks it can take with at-home whitening kits.
Universal Dental Care provides two types of professional whitening:
Zoom QuickPro
This system can whiten teeth by up to 4 shades in a single 30 minute session. First, a layer of whitening solution is applied to every tooth by a dental care provider. This part of the process can take around 10 minutes.
Next, a protective sealant is placed over the teeth and you’re sent home. After 30 minutes you can brush the dried teeth whitening solution off your teeth, and you’re done!
Zoom WhiteSpeed
Zoom WhiteSpeed allows you to brighten your teeth by up to 8 shades in just 45 minutes. A whitening gel is applied to the teeth which is activated using a special WhiteSpeed acceleration lamp.
Three 15-minute sessions are needed to achieve the results, all performed in the same visit. Your Universal Dental Care dental provider may decide you need another session to really finish off the treatment.
With WhiteSpeed, you also receive take-home whitening gel to help you keep your teeth whiter for longer.
How does at-home whitening work?
Zoom offers two at-home whitening options, DayWhite and NiteWhite. Both systems use dental trays and whitening gel. DayWhite is worn once a day for 30 minutes for two weeks. NiteWhite is worn overnight for 4-6 hours, also for 2 weeks.
While both give you noticeable results, neither is as dramatic as in-chair professional whitening in Universal Dental Care’s offices.
