Why would I use veneers?
Veneers are one of the most versatile dental therapies available. They can be thought of as fake nails for your teeth, made out of thin shells of porcelain that are used to recreate the look of natural teeth.
The experienced dental team at Universal Dental Care can use veneers to correct problems such as cracks, chips and whitening-resistant stains. You can close gaps between teeth, and even reshape misshapen teeth, all using veneers.
What are veneers made out of?
Veneers are usually made of porcelain, a durable, stain-resistant material that closely matches the look of natural teeth.
How does getting dental veneers work?
Dental veneers require two appointments. After the initial consultation and planning, the first appointment involves preparing the teeth. To do this, a fine layer of tooth is shaved down to allow room for the veneer to be applied without interfering with other teeth. Once this is done to all necessary teeth, impressions are made for the dental lab to base the veneers on.
Once the veneers have been prepared by the lab, you’ll return to Universal Dental Care to have them bonded to your teeth. Your dentist will clean and etch the surface of each tooth to ensure the veneers have the best possible contact when being bonded.
Dental cement is applied to the teeth and the veneers are set in place. The cement is hardened with a special light, and you can leave the office with a new, beautiful smile.
What are the benefits of dental veneers?
- Porcelain is stain resistant, so you won’t have to worry about tooth discoloration any time soon
- There’s little if any gum irritation
- Maintains as much of the natural tooth structure as possible
- Lighten teeth which can no longer be brightened through teeth whitening
- Reinforce weak teeth
